Listening to something that Swingman handed me. It's swing and I'm enjoying hearing new music in a new way for the first time in a long time. It's definitely an acquired taste, and I could probably live with out it, but I'm enjoying the process of finding out what I like and what I don't. I guess the music does not repulse me, and some of it I REALLY like. Lavay Smith (? I think that's her name ?) has a CD that was cool.

God, I sound like I don't like the music. I do. It is so different from what I'm used to. I'm used to music that brings out anger and aggression. Metalica, Stabbing Westward, Godsmack, Silver Chair, Offspring, Skidrow, Gravity Kills, Nirvana, MegaDeath, Mozart, Wagner, Thin Lizzy, Iron Maiden. You know, warrior music. This is so different, it's light, airy and just fun. No social commentary, no anger, much more of a tongue in cheek humor (that could be just what Swingman has thrown me too). There is also a whole lot of implied sex. A whole lot. A whole lot of courtship music.

Ok, I've been out dancing now a TOTAL of 3 times, and I don't count the first time at the crystal ballroom 2 years ago, so that brings it down to 2 times. But it's a lot of fun, you get a lot of contact with interesting people, and you can get a surprisingly good feel for what a person is like just by dancing with them. I guess "Fun" is the word that comes to mind with swing. It's fun, the music is fun, the dancing is fun, the people are fun. No egos. It's not a pick up scene. You're dancing with someone for 3 minutes.

Work, Ok, Mango has been having problems that it would build and run fine on the build machine, but when you run it on the clean machine, it would bomb with a VB error of "unexpected error" (informative, no?) before it would hit the first line of code. David suggested that I find out what old versions of what dll's and ocx's were being installed by Mango, as opposed to what was on the build machine. See, the only way of getting Mango to run was by installing Banana over the top of it. Something in banana worked correctly.

I spent about 4 hours running through the driver directory (104 files) and comparing version numbers with what was in my windows\system directory. End result, 9 files in my system dir were newer (7 were older - I ignored their existence). I replaced those 9 files, re-did the wise install and voila, it worked. So there's another bug, dead. Color me happy.

I also had a break through in the build process, I now know that I CAN automate the whole process. The trick is going to be doing it. I'm going to have to pull Perl out because I have to change some things in the vbp files: version number, and build path. If I get those changed then I can just send a path to the make program and I've cut 3 hours out of my work flow. Three very booooring hours.

I'm going to get out of here and go to first Thursday. First Thursday is this really cool thing that they do in portland, all of the art galleries open their doors for free and invite the public in. Had a member of the polyamory panel suggest it as a way of meeting new people. So off I go like a lemming.

Later:

Except for the fact that today is (ah-duh) the second Thursday. I think it was when I realized that it was the 8th, and started doing some counting. Ah well, a nice night at home. Waiting for my dialup to connect. And waiting, and waiting, and waiting.

But you're reading this so it means that I got on at some point.
